Federal University Oye-Ekiti has recorded another milestone in its quest for quality academic development on Thursday May 5, 2015, as the institutions Metrology Laboratory named after Engineer Otis Anyaeji

According to Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Professor Isaac Asuzu, the launch was in fulfillment of promises made by Engineer Otis Anyaeji during an infrastructure development drive and fund-raising dinner held at Abuja on October 23, 2013.

Professor Asuzu revealed that at that occasion, Otis Anyaeji made initial pledge of N4,188,971 for the completion of the University’s Metrology laboratory which was redeemed within 24 hours. He later made a further donation of N655,000 for the laboratory furniture.

Engineer Otis, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of O.T. Otis Engineering Limited

In the same vein, the Faculty of Engineering Library was also named after Engineer Lanre Adesuyi.

Applauding their efforts, the vice chancellor said what is striking about these donators was that they came at a most appropriate period: “They gave us the much needed hope and energy to pursue the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering,” he said. As he also announced to the delight of the eminent personalities present that all the seven programmes of the Faculty of Engineering were preaccredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in July 2014.

Professor Asuzu further said that in order to ‘provide the necessary environment for high quality training and research in engineering disciplines and to promote the development of excellent entrepreneurial skills and innovation, the university strives relentlessly to equip and upgrade the R&D workshop, laboratory and library facilities.

While stating that the faculty programmes will also be undergoing NUC accreditation exercise. Prof. Asuzu said “The efforts of the university notwithstanding, considerable support of partners is very much needed to be able to acquire most of the workshop equipment, scientific measuring instruments and books required for qualitative training and research that produce graduates that fit into the global marketplace.

He therefore deeply appreciated Engr. Otis Anyaeji and Lanre Adesuyi in whose honour the ceremony was held while calling on other public spirited individuals and organisations to render invaluable support to the university.

In his response, Engr. Otis Anyaeji thanked the University for the honour bestowed on im, saying “I am exceedingly pleased to be here, and thankful to God for giving me this privilege of being associated with the establishment of this Metrology Laboratory, which the University {Federal University Oye Ekiti) has magnanimously named after my humble self {the Engr. Otis Anyaeji Metrology Laboratory FUOYE}. We will of course proceed to ceremonially open the laboratory, which is dedicated this day, March 14, 2015, to the glory of God, to the advancement of engineering, and to the service of humanity.”
